The PEMCLDP Practice course is a professional and an interdisciplinary course that focuses on the chieftaincy institution of Ghana, and governance within national and international legal and development policy frameworks as indispensable to policy making, planning, and implementing sustainable development. Chieftaincy and the traditional leadership architecture in Ghana is key to sustainable development, but it is confronted with decision-making, conflicts, and conflict resolution problems. Chieftaincy, ethnic and communal conflicts are threats to sustainable development in Ghana and globally.
The course is organised into three components. The first comprises the legal and policy framework regulating chieftaincy, traditional leadership, and governance. The second is the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism, which focuses on developing practical skills, such as negotiation and managing protracted conflicts. The third component involves Ghana’s development discourse, with emphasis on gender, peacebuilding, social protection, institutions, and culture as major policy challenges towards overcoming poverty and insecurity. It also takes into account NGOs and Social Movements as key drivers of local community and national development. Overall, the course seeks to equip participants with the requisite legal capacity, practical skills, and competencies to analyse and resolve conflicts or sustainable development in Ghana. Graduates of the course can undertake consultancies in areas such as the Chieftaincy Institution, Local Government, and Rural and Community Development; NGOs in Conflict and Peacebuilding, and Security; Organizational Change and Development to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development (as envisioned in Sustainable Development Goal 16).

The PEMCLD Practice course seeks to achieve the following:
- The main objective of PEMCLDP is geared towards equipping participants with the requisite competence and practical skills to resolve protracted chieftaincy, ethnic and communal conflicts which are the bane of Ghana’s development to enhance sustainable development and investment.
- To equip participants with adequate legal knowledge in the area of customary law, chieftaincy, and traditional leadership; governance, and development.

Admission Requirements Admission is available for Chiefs and Queen mothers, Lawyers and Legal scholars and graduates, traditional leaders, Staff of Houses of Chiefs and Traditional Councils, Development Practitioners, NGO and Social workers, Gender and Social Protection Practitioners, Consultants in the Lands Sector, ADR
- Practitioners, Human Rights Practitioners, National and Multinational Investment and Development Consultants and other professionals who are interested in building a career in Conflict, Peacebuilding, and Sustainable Development.
- Minimum Requirement is a Diploma with relevant working experience.
